About African Wild Dogs
on Thursday, April 01, 2010

African wild dogs  have a good way of doing things!

They aren't that fierce though, they have many enemies.(especially a lion). They mostly eat impalas and other types of deer. The alpha female (the one that is in charge) gives birth to some babies in a den. The babies will stay in the den for three years,  then they will start learning things and start chewing meat. The babies will learn things like learning to hunt for food, but they won't hunt.

When they get older they are called " Juveniles."  A group of wild dogs are called packs. The pack hunts together. And when they spot some prey, each one of them run all around chasing their own. And when one of the pack brings down one of whatever they are catching, the pack eats fast before any other carnivores get it. They don't eat the whole of it because they have to give some to the alpha female who is guarding the babies.

Wild dogs have a lot of things to do!
