George Washington was the first president of the United States. He was born on February 22, 1732 in Virginia. He died in 1799, Virginia. If he were alive today, he would be 271 years old!
He had 2 stepchildren and 1 wife during his lifetime. His pets were 3 staghounds, He had 4 coophounds, He had a donkey, and a horse.
George was an honest, daring, and smart man. Once when he was at war, a cannonball almost hit him and his men. Everyone hid except for George. He just kept fighting.
Young George loved (home) school. His favorite subject was arithmetic. In 1749, he became a surveyor. In 1752 his brother died and George had to take over most of his brother's jobs as adjutant of the colony. Soon later he was made chief commander of the continental army.
While George was president, he made the U.S. constitution (Legislative, Executive, Judicial) and the bill of rights.
The people wanted George to run president a third term but he said "No. Ruling too long would give a man too much power." Then on horseback he went back to his home to stay with his wife, Martha. 3 years after being president, George died from a throat infection. George Washington had been the first president that didn't live in Washington D.C.
